50 Non-Negotiable Things to Do as a New Mom

Dear new moms, here is simple list of 50 non- negotiable things you should do while embracing beauty of motherhood. 🫶🏻

🧠 Mental & Emotional Health (1–10)

  1. Sleep whenever possible ( yes, even during the day )
  2. Cry without explaining yourself. Let your emotions flow.
  3. Stop trying to be a ‘perfect mom’. Just be a ‘present mom’.
  4. Mute people who trigger your anxiety. (Boundaries are very important)
  5. Say NO without GUILT.
  6. Ask for help (accept it without shame)
  7. Take breaks from advice overload. There is no single (perfect) way of parenting.
  8. Trust your instincts. (mom instincts are very real)
  9. Celebrate small wins. ( being satisfied and happy with small things like baby having a good bath, you sleeping for 2 hrs straight, baby gaining weight consistently, you having a good hairwash etc etc are little joys that will boost your mood)
  10. Remind yourself – this phase too shall pass. It’s temporary and I’m strong to face this and go through it for me and my baby.

🤍 Physical Recovery (11–20)


11. Eat warm, nourishing meals ( high protein, good fats … keep the glucose on the higher side 😉 little sweet treat is a saviour)


12. Drink enough water.


13. Rest more than you think you should. ( Recovery comes from rest)


14. Take prescribed supplements. ( Don’t skip! No no never)


15. Prioritize healing over housework. ( also the job or the boss can wait)


16. Listen to your body.


17. Attend post-partum checkups.


18. Move gently (only when ready). First around the bed, then stroll in your house and then step outside once ready.


19. Stop comparing recovery timelines.


20. Respect pain and fatigue. ( body signals for extra rest)

👶 Baby Bonding (21–30)


21. Hold your baby as much as you want. ( no it will never spoil the baby. That is how nature has designed it. Baby feels safest in mumma’s arms❤️)


22. Talk, sing, and smile often ( a little melody goes a long way)


23. Skin-to-skin time


24. Follow your baby’s cues. (Feed and sleep time can be set .. this will keep the baby calm and fuss free also you will have a planned routine)


25. Create simple routines. ( but don’t get frustrated if routine is disturbed… at times babies just don’t cooperate and that’s ok.. give them time to settle)


26. Capture memories (photos/journals). You will never realise how time flies and your new born suddenly is a little toddler. Cherish them the most.


27. Enjoy quiet moments.(do nothing for a while ..simply sit and breathe)


28. Let go of “spoiling” myths.( oh there are so many out there! Just hold your baby, love your baby, feed your baby the way you want … your love and care is what matters for the baby ..not others opinions)


29. Be fully present sometimes (phone down). No mindless scrolling…that’s not a good me time to be honest.


30. Trust in your bond is enough. You are your child’s mother. And that is the fact. Nobody can replace you.

🏡 Boundaries & Support (31–40)


31. Set boundaries with relatives( no unwanted advice.. skip the judgements)


32. Protect your mental peace.


33. Limit visitors if needed.


34. Ignore unsolicited advice.


35. Choose what feels right for your family.


36. Speak up when uncomfortable. ( this is very important to set boundaries)


37. Ask for emotional support.


38. Step away from toxic environments. ( your peace lies in your hands)


39. Give yourself grace. ( you are doing the best you can mama! Your body is nourishing a tiny human. Show that Love and respect for your body and mind)


40. Put yourself on the priority list. (happy and healthy you = happy and healthy baby)

🌸 Self-Care & Identity (41–50)


41. Shower without rushing.


42. Wear comfortable clothes.


43. Do one thing just for you. ( drink that coffee while it’s hot, go on a walk with your favourite music on, watch a movie on your wishlist , go on a shopping spree… anything just for yourself🤍)


44. Journal your feelings. ( this helps a lot .. write it down ..flow of thoughts and emotions keeps you sorted)


45. Step outside daily.


46. Reconnect with who you are. ( the old you is gone.. but the new you is far more better and stronger)


47. Dream again (slowly).


48. Create a vision for yourself. ( Try vision boards)
